Rescue Remedy
Life has a funny way of telling you you’re getting old. The grunt when you stand up, the cramps that never struck before when you stupidly (after a drink or 2) practice high kicks like ‘you used to do’ in martial arts training or dance class.

The not horrible cough that would simply disappear after a day or so that now seems to last a little longer, or in Jill’s case, turned into pneumonia. As you age you begin to understand how certain factors that have always been a part of your life make sense.

Like anxiety or even depression.

We’ve recently discovered a few changes for the better, excluding eating healthy, going to the gym and cutting back or quitting altogether substances that don’t help the situation; we’ve stumbled on something called Rescue Remedy. It helps with focus and over analysing conversations. Then there’s St John’s Wort, a herbal pill that helps with balancing out the mood and helping in general day to day functions when needed.

Short of going to a doctor every year for the full check-up, blood pressure, blood scans, eye tests, cardio etc, we like to think that we’ve done alright after shifting both our mindset and physical perceptions from where we were years ago. We’re talking about 82 bottles of Jack Daniels in 6 weeks. That can’t be good for anybody! You won’t find any spirits in our house now (except the wispy entity kind, but they can stay).

The chocolate, chips, fast food, sugary drinks, all adds up, so it’s our belief that everything in moderation is ok. A treat is worth it if deserved ;).

Where we live, if you catch a cold that turns into a flu, you can’t simply go to the chemist and get pseudoephedrine tablets without first going through a thorough check of your ID to make sure you’ve not bought it recently. We’ve had issues where both of us have been sick and been unable to buy more (from a different chemist) due to going through a box that we shared so quickly. This check is due to those who use the chemicals to create illicit drugs.

Some people just have to ruin it for the rest of us.

We do not own this image

No matter how hard we try, we feel in our bones that there is something we’re meant to do with our lives, both of us just ‘know’ that someday, somehow, something we put our minds to will become a success and change people’s lives. In the years we’ve been married, we’ve been through hardships, and we’ve tried and failed miserably at certain creative notions and business ventures, but we always bounce back.

Simply writing a blog obviously isn’t something we planned to do, but if our words can help any of our readers by way of relating to our story or helping you get through an issue of your own, then that in itself is a success. But what if there was more to it than this? What if, by a stroke of good luck or fate we speak to the right person who is in need of something we can offer?

On so many occasions we’ve been in the right place at the right time and it got us thinking why us? Who are we and why do we matter? We’re just a husband and wife with our own dear little family creating barely a ripple this big wide world of water. If either of us were to pass over tomorrow, the only people that would notice would be our close families.

There would be no national mourning, no fanfare to celebrate our lives, not even a biography in years to come, written by somebody well known. So why do we even bother?

Because we have to try!

We just know there is something important that must be done in our lifetime. We understand we’ll never go to a third world country and help villages gain water, not because we’re cold hearted, we just know that’s not the pathway for us. Nor will we rally and fight a cause in the streets to get our point across; this also isn’t the pathway for us.

Right now all we can do is plod along, putting our minds together to try and THINK of what it is we’re supposed to do. We can’t just stay in the same job and go through the motions until we’re too old to function anymore. We love our respective families, but there’s not a chance we’d survive if we followed in their footsteps.

Life is uncertain. Life is mundane. Life is fleeting. Life is surprising all the same.

You got to know when to hold ‘em

We do not own this image

We may not celebrate Independence Day in Australia (for historic reasons obviously), but we had our own little party on the 4th of July, free to dress how we wanted, free to eat how we wanted and because it was at an engagement party, free to party how we wanted!

The engagement party was last night Continue reading

We do not own this image

After losing our house to the bank years and years ago, we found ourselves caught up in ‘the rental trap’. We paid to live in somebody else’s house and still do unfortunately, but we’re blessed to be where we are now, due to our landlord changing our lease to a private rental. So no property management or frequent inspections, yay!

But it hasn’t always been a bed of roses. Continue reading

Why is it so much harder to find that perfectly suited suit and shirt for Jack in comparison to Jill’s dress? It’s not that there is a lack of attire for men, it’s just so expensive to find a simple suit in our local brick and mortar little shops of horrors for a one night shindig.

We set out on our journey to find the perfect outfits for the engagement party (mentioned in our Love is in the air blog). Continue reading

Taken Valentine's Day 2015

Taken Valentine’s Day 2015

We’ve been invited to an engagement party for a friend we’ve known mutually for years, one of those “I’ll never settle down types” who suddenly finds himself head over heels with the perfect match. Good for him! But it’s made us nostalgic as we’ll be celebrating our 11th wedding anniversary this year.

So it’s got us thinking – what makes a good marriage? Continue reading

We do not own this image.

At some point or another, we all tend to feel we’ve (or know someone who has) had a close shave with death or major injury. Whether it was taking a different route to work and missing a huge pile up of traffic, catching an earlier flight home and the pre-booked flight goes missing or crashes…It kinda makes you think; what if? It’s cold outside, the fire is roaring and there is nothing better to do then curl up and revisit our favourite couch co-op game – The Legend of Spyro, Dawn of the Dragon on PS3 (originally released on PS2). The music is calming, the fighting is fun and the “I’m out of ammunition” is hilarious! Continue reading

Raine, Eva & Freddie

Raine, Eva & Freddie

It was inevitable that as being owned by 3 cats it wouldn’t take long for us to talk about them. Over the years we’ve had precious little felines come and go, some happy instances, but also some sad goodbyes. At present our fur babies keep us on our toes! They may be black cats that some consider unlucky, but lucky for us they each have tiny tufts of white fur on their chests, so they’re not all bad… Continue reading
